Blonder Is Not Always Better

I love doing a transformation, aka making people feel sexy when they look good. I warmed up the ash blonde with Redken Shades EQ then hand painted using a balayage. I highlighted with Solaris, creating a warm golden blonde.

#fbf I had the privilege of doing Kim’s color for a few years, she’s amazing by the way, and yes gorgeous. One of the movies we worked together on was “SENTINEL.” I did some Balayage highlights to create a dimensional blonde with baby blonde pops. #kingofblonde #coreypaints

I got the opportunity to work with Hilary from my good friend Ann Morgan. Ms. Swank did this cover between films. Great working with her, such a talent.

#transformationtuesday….No more Ombré

On September 1, 2015 by Corey Powell

This adorable girl Val Pina  comes in with 8 inch dark re growth and the rest of it is over bleached. She shows me some pix of she wants pretty hair now, said she did the pink, blue, purple and grays, now she wants sexy pretty natural looking hair. Val spent the afternoon with my team and I at Sally Hershberger LA, filling, smudging, toning, low-lighting, Balayage highlighting, thank god for Brizilian BondBuilder 3R and Olaplex.. Looks pretty damn sexy for the first go around for color correction.  What you think!

Roxy came in recently looking to brighten up her look. Her mother, Julia Sorkin says I’m the #KingofBlonde. So I did my magic with two multi-tonal techniques – balayge highlights, and created a halo of light.

Summer’s Hottest Trend: Balayage Highlights

On May 27, 2015 by Corey Powell

Screen Shot 2015-05-27 at 8.58.15 AMThe summer’s hottest trend is going lighter and looking natural. In my most recent video, we balayaged graphic designer and model, Blanda Eggenschwiler just in time for the warmer weather

What makes Balayage unique versus traditional color techniques? For starters, the hairdresser doesn’t use any foil to create the highlighted look. The technique is more freehand and specialized and requires practice. Luckily for all you #HairJunkies out there, I use the balayage technique all the time, which is unusual considering the trend has only recently come over from the UK this season. But I will say all the A-Listers are coming in just for this treatment.

Balayage means ‘to sweep’ or ‘paint’ in french, which is exactly what I did with Blanda. You can see in the video we worked on numerous sections of the hair, weaving in highlights that are less noticeable than what we’re used to seeing. As your grows out with balayage color, the roots are less noticeable, leaving more of a sun kissed, natural look.

Screen Shot 2015-05-27 at 8.58.15 AMPersonally, my favorite aspect of balayage is that it truly looks effortless. Instead of looking like someone who spends hours in the salon, you look like you just finished spending hours of time on the beach. #HairTip: Ask your hairdresser to match the best color to work into your hair based on your skin tone. So not only will you have the hottest trend of the summer, but it will enhance your skin too.

The look of balayage is timeless, low-maintenance, and will cost you less money in terms how often you’ll need to go in for a color touchup.

Whether you’re blonde, brunette, redhead, or have some crazy purple dye job, you can balayage any color to change things up.

#MakeoverMonday with Kayslee Collins

On May 11, 2015 by Corey Powell

Kayslee Collins had an important meeting to attend for a job and came in to see me to have the pink removed from her hair and bring her back to her natural color, blonde. We removed as much of the pink as possible in one day without compromising the integrity of her hair. We had her come in the following day to add some balayage highlights and lowlights to create some contrast. Kayslee has beautiful hair and is such a beautiful girl! She is stunning as a natural blonde, do you agree? Leave comments below!

Michelle Monaghan for FAULT

On May 4, 2015 by Corey Powell
My client Michelle Monaghan looking fantastic in her photo shoot for FAULT Magazine. I had just taken her blonde down a few shades, making her hair look more natural and sun-kissed. I added balayage highlights using Solaris bleach and Olaplex to keep the hair in amazing condition.
