#MakeoverMonday Featuring Virginia

On May 25, 2015 by Corey Powell

This week’s #MakeoverMonday is the definition of makeover. My client, Virginia, an art school teacher, sought me out because she loves Margot Robbie’s hair color.

As you can see in the before shot, her hair was nowhere near Margot’s or anywhere near blonde. We brainstormed a bit and upon finishing the consultation, decided to take it a step farther than Margot’s look— bleach and tone it! What a transformation. IMG_7149

Virginia looks like a whole new woman! Not only does the color change up her entire look, but it’s sexy, fun and edgy. The added texture she has from bleaching it will also allow her to try out all different kinds of short, fun styles.

Although an overall bleached look like Virginia’s requires consistent upkeep, the right techniques (like toning) and proper every day care will keep your hair looking bright and healthy.

#MakeoverMonday Featuring Georgia Connick

On May 18, 2015 by Corey Powell

Georgia ConnickI recently had the pleasure of working with Georgia Connick, daughter of Harry Connick Jr., who came in and told me that she needed something new to brighten up her style. Georgia’s mother, Jill who is also a client of mine, told her daughter that if she wanted to go lighter/blonde that she had to see Corey Powell, ‘The King of Blonde.”

Her hair was light brunette to begin with, so I hand painted and balayaged some highlights throughout to create a beautiful blonde look with depth and texture. As you can see in the photo, the highlights brighten up her whole face, and now here eyes really pop! It’s a great look on Georgia for summer.

This look is great if your hair is on the darker side and you want to go lighter for the warmer months, without changing your look too drastically. I love her new look!

#MakeoverMonday with Kayslee Collins

On May 11, 2015 by Corey Powell

Kayslee Collins had an important meeting to attend for a job and came in to see me to have the pink removed from her hair and bring her back to her natural color, blonde. We removed as much of the pink as possible in one day without compromising the integrity of her hair. We had her come in the following day to add some balayage highlights and lowlights to create some contrast. Kayslee has beautiful hair and is such a beautiful girl! She is stunning as a natural blonde, do you agree? Leave comments below!

5 Tips for Healthy Blonde Hair Color

On December 22, 2014 by Corey Powell

beth-behrs-blonde-hair

After investing time and money into your beautiful blonde hair color, making sure it stays healthy and shiny should be of importance as well. To make sure you do, I have 5 easy tips that can help make your daily haircare routine a success for beautiful looking blonde tresses.

  1. Be consistent with one colorist, once you have found him/her make sure you discuss maintenance and up-keep.
  2. Using a Sulfate and Sodium Chloride free shampoo is a must. This will avoid dehydrating your hair making it brittle and dull.
  3. If Using a purple shampoo, only use every other or third wash.
  4. Use a heat and UV protectant on your hair to protect for sun and heat damage.
  5. Always invest in a good Conditioner, you already invested in your hair so make sure you get a good conditioner to keep it nourished.

Let me know if you found these tips helpful or have any questions for me in the comments below.

The Many Looks of Kim Basinger

On November 11, 2014 by Corey Powell

Creating looks for actors for Film or T.V. is very fun, challenging, and getting the color exactly right for the character can get very demanding. But I absolutely love it! Creating such looks requires a collaboration with the movie’s hair stylist, producer, director, and of course the actor which is inspiring the role.

Last week Kim Basinger came in to get her color done for an upcoming film, and had not seen her for years. The first time I met her was in 2003 and I was stunned with such a beauty and I automatically fell in love with her. At that time we needed to make her hair color a perfect shade of a medium copper reddish-brown for her character in the film “Even Money”. It was fantastic working with Kim even after we went back to blonde for movies like: “Cellular”, “Sentinel”, “The Door In The Floor” just to name a few. She even went on to be the face for an editorial campaign with Miu Miu.

This time when Kim came in to the salon the demand was to create depth in her hair and brighten up her blonde with Balayage highlights for her new role in the up coming film “The Good Guys”. I can’t wait for you to see the final look, and most importantly this amazing film.

Here are some pictures from previous advertisements, editorial shoots and films I have done her hair for:

Beth Behrs New Shorter blonder look

On October 20, 2014 by Corey Powell

Change is definitely in the hair this Fall and I always love seeing my celebrity clients rocking their new do’s in some very happy faces. In this case I recently took “2 Broke Girls” star Beth Behrs to the blonder side with a beautiful tone on tone blonde with just a few painted highlights to help add some dimension. Finally, we went for a more dramatic shorter lob-style haircut with a sexy side swept bang instead of her usual heavy fringe she recently had.

Here’s a before picture of her with longer hair and an after taken on set with her co-star Kat Dennings with the guest appearance of Kim Kardashian.

US Weekly: Michelle Monaghan goes blonder

On October 9, 2014 by Corey Powell

The media coverage of Michelle Monaghan going blonde seems to still be circulating and buzz-worthy. Us Weekly online created an animated gif to show the transition from brunette (which the star has been for years) to blonde. Ultimately the drastic hair color change I did on “The Best of Me” star suits her very well and I am glad to see the buzz it continues to create.

VVV Magazine: Noomi Rapace

On October 5, 2014 by Corey Powell

See this amazing before and after transformation on usually brunette actress Noomi Rapace for the cover of VVV Magazine. I took her super blonde and to a very sexy champagne tone that complimented her shimmery skin tone. This was a pretty big dramatic change for the “Promethius” actress that not only took some time to achieve, but also required some major skills to get her hair light enough to then tint to a champagne hue with very little damage.
