The Girls of “Into The Badlands”

On January 7, 2016 by Corey Powell

My good friend Anne Morgan asked me to help her create amazing hair color for the girls on AMC’s show Into The Badlands. We collaborated on creating colors that fit each character– a creative process that I love.

Clockwise from top left: Orla Brady (Lydia), Sarah Bolger (Jade), Emily Beecham (The Widow), Ellen Hollman (Zypher)

Morgan and I decided to make Lydia, played by Orla Brady, a brunette with cool, golden hues.

Jade, played by Sarah Bolger, was to be an angelic blonde.

The Widow, played by Emily Beecham would be perfect with vibrant, cool, copper-red.

And Zypher, played by Ellen Hollman, would look fantastic with icy platinum blonde with a smoky root.

Then, I was flown to New Orleans to work my magic. During the two-day, 10-hour project we faced a power outage and even a tornado scare in the middle of my creating Sarah Bolger’s (Jade) look– even under normal circumstances transforming a reddish brunette to an angelic blonde is no easy task. I was down to the wire for the film test and my flight home. Luckily, I thrive under pressure (I am The King of Blonde, after all!) and the end result was stunning. Ellen Hollman (Zypher) was up next, and we all loved her final look.

This was such a fun project for a great show. Thank you again, Morgan!

Jojoba Oil: 3 Key Benefits For Your Hair

On January 6, 2016 by Corey Powell

If you’re curious to learn more about the benefits of using jojoba oil for your hair, then you’ve come to the right place. In this guide, we’re going to highlight some of the key benefits this oil can provide for your hair – so without any further introduction – let’s get straight to it.

Benefit 1: Increased Volume
For people who have thinning or fine hair, jojoba oil is the perfect conditioner. After just a few applications, you’ll soon begin to notice the improved thickness it creates and you’ll be delighted to discover that the effect persists for as long as you continue using the oil.

Benefit 2: Fantastic Hydration
One of the keys to healthy looking hair is making sure it’s well hydrated. However, with the myriad of shampoos and hair conditioners on the market right now, it’s disappointing to discover how drying many of these products can be.

Fortunately, jojoba oil has the ability to hydrate your hair from within, which goes a long way towards keeping your hair well hydrated, regardless of the type of shampoo you’re currently using.

Benefit 3: Shine, Softness, & Elasticity
These three traits are considered the “holy grail” of healthy hair and there’s growing evidence to support the fact that jojoba oil helps to improve all three. Most users report that their hair feels stronger – yet softer – after using jojoba oil regularly for as little as two weeks.

Overall, it’s safe to say that jojoba oil is one of the most effective treatments for any hair type. If you were to invest in some quality jojoba oil and commit to using it regularly, you’re going to be shocked and delighted with the results it will give you.

So, if you’re weighing up the pros and cons of trying this oil, you owe it to yourself to give it a try.

Margot Robbie

On October 26, 2015 by Corey Powell

To MUSE is to consider something thoughtfully. A muse is a person–especially a woman–who is a source of artistic inspiration.

In 2013, Ann Morgan asked if I could do Margot Robbie’s color for her character Jess in the movie “Focus.” I made her really blonde by softening her base and adding lots of balayage highlights. (She’s such a beauty and very sweet, so it was great working with her.) Harpers Bazaar named her Golden Globes red carpet look the Most Sought After Hair Color of 2014. She looked so damn hot!

Ms. Robbie went home to Australia and went brunette for her role in “Z For Zachariah” and showed up at The Academy Awards with long, dark retro waves. Then she was off to London, where she went strawberry blonde for “Tarzan.” For her role in “Suicide Squad”, Margot went platinum blonde with some blue and pink streaks–her look is amazing and so much fun.

On the August 2015 cover of Elle magazine, she looks stunning as an apricot blonde, which is a must-have hair color for anyone looking for a change. No matter what Margot Robbie does with her hair color, she’s HOT.

I’ve been doing some research, looking back into the late 80’s early 90’s. Love the French influence by Dassage, the apricot blonde is fresh and genius, let’s bring sexy back, movement, unkempt, #ffhair (freshly fucked),  fresh color, layers, hot for fall…
