Self Care, begins with your Hair.

“When you pay attention to how you feel and practice self-empowering

thoughts that align with who you really are,

you will offer an example of

thriving that will be of tremendous value to those who have the benefit of

observing you.” Abraham

You’re feelings are expressed in your appearance. Whether your feel lively, indifferent, lazy, happy or sad, you can always empower the impression that people have of you. Start at the top! The top of your head that is. By having genius hair color, the perfect cut that compliments your face and an amazing blowout you can create your most resourceful self.

In my many years of doing hair I have realized many people don’t know how to do with their own hair. I always suggest to my clients to take some “ME” time. On a Sunday afternoon grab your tasty beverage of choice, head to the bathroom and just shut the door.

Now for some self care, some ME time. Take 15 – 20 minutes depending on your hair – trust me you are worth it. Begin to feel comfortable with the tools, tips and tricks I have shared with you in the salon. Once you have taken some time and taught yourself how to master your own hair style, you will have amazing hair and look like a million bucks – it just takes  twenty minutes or less.

Hair, makeup, and wardrobe all effect your mood and the energy that you exude all of which represent who you are and is people’s first impression of you. Do you appreciate the body that has been given to you? What kind of foods are you eating? Are they high in sugars that bring you up and then send you crashing down, or are they battered and fried foods that you know raise your cholesterol levels? And of course, we know that carbs and dairy will bloat you up like a balloon. But, what kind of better foods could you be eating? We have so much information today on healthy food consumption rather it be natural, organic, grass fed, kale, spinach, gluten free and sugar free. We have so many choices but yet we still do all this bad eating for immediate gratification – eating our feelings.

A better option is to take time to shop, chop, marinade, grill, steam or bake your own foods. Preparing your own meals will change the way your body processes food making it function more efficiently, which can equate to feeling better. If you’re taking good care of yourself, you would eat fresh foods that make you feel good throughout the day. Not the unhealthy processed fuel that feeds the addiction to sugary, fatty and salty foods. Once you have made the choice to eat healthy clean foods your cravings for the bad will dissipate and you will feel fantastic.

Feelings and emotions can be chaperoned by your connection to some sort of spirituality, a higher power, or god. Some call it SOURCE. Call it what you will, but a belief that there is something bigger than yourself and your ideas is of better good for all of man kind. When you take time to work your spiritual muscles, you increase your patience, tolerance, and acceptance creating a sense of hope, peace and compassion leaving you calm and responsive. The only time your brain gets some quiet time is when you meditate, not when you sleep, drink, eat or smoke pot.

There is an unknowing expectation and/or resistance to the results of the ancient practice of meditation. It can be done anywhere – in your living room, car or even in the shower. You don’t need to light a candle, or an incense. I do sometimes because I like the ritual, and the scent reminds me of being calm and peaceful.

When you decide you deserve some serenity in your life, try setting aside ten minutes to sit quietly in a chair or on a cushion and just close your eyes and mouth, breath through your nose, focus on your breath, in and out – maybe even count. Feel the breath on the top of your lip letting your body relax and your thoughts escape you. Your mind is the most used muscle/organ in your body. It truly is rewarding to let your brain have some down time. It creates a more harmonious day for everyone.

Finally, take enough pride in yourself and the time to really appreciate your life, your body and your spirit. It only takes ten minutes to quiet your mind, twenty minutes to create beautiful hair, and thirty minutes to slice and dice to prepare an amazing meal. Taking this time for your mind, body, and your hair will be expressed in how you feel. The way you look shows how you are feeling, or at least how people think you feel.

Ask yourself these questions:

How much time and effort do you put into feeling good?

Is it enough?

If you’re not feeling like your most resourceful self, ask yourself, “What am I focusing on? Is it just immediate gratification?

Am I just getting by?

Who cares?

What are you willing to do to create a higher state of mind?

Don’t forget, YOU have the power to create a good feeling that stays with you, in your mind, your heart, and in your soul…
