Whitney Cummings’ New Summer Hair

On June 29, 2017 by Corey Powell

The Funny and Gorgeous Whitney Cummings calls me up and says, “Honey, I need a new look– darker, richer, sexier, with a few bits of light in the front.” And so here it is, three different formulas of lowlights, then a gloss, all by DIA Richesse by L’Oréal Professionnel.

The Girls of “Into The Badlands”

On January 7, 2016 by Corey Powell

My good friend Anne Morgan asked me to help her create amazing hair color for the girls on AMC’s show Into The Badlands. We collaborated on creating colors that fit each character– a creative process that I love.

Clockwise from top left: Orla Brady (Lydia), Sarah Bolger (Jade), Emily Beecham (The Widow), Ellen Hollman (Zypher)

Morgan and I decided to make Lydia, played by Orla Brady, a brunette with cool, golden hues.

Jade, played by Sarah Bolger, was to be an angelic blonde.

The Widow, played by Emily Beecham would be perfect with vibrant, cool, copper-red.

And Zypher, played by Ellen Hollman, would look fantastic with icy platinum blonde with a smoky root.

Then, I was flown to New Orleans to work my magic. During the two-day, 10-hour project we faced a power outage and even a tornado scare in the middle of my creating Sarah Bolger’s (Jade) look– even under normal circumstances transforming a reddish brunette to an angelic blonde is no easy task. I was down to the wire for the film test and my flight home. Luckily, I thrive under pressure (I am The King of Blonde, after all!) and the end result was stunning. Ellen Hollman (Zypher) was up next, and we all loved her final look.

This was such a fun project for a great show. Thank you again, Morgan!

#TransitionTuesday with Azure Parsons

On August 11, 2015 by Corey Powell

My client @azureparsons was very brunette for #astronautswivesclub on #ABC. So we decided to go very #blonde!  She’s so fearless when it comes to #color, she’s been every color you can imagine for different characters. It allows a lot fun and creativity in my job! #transitiontuesdays #kingofblonde #masterofmakeovers

The Many Looks of Kim Basinger

On November 11, 2014 by Corey Powell

Creating looks for actors for Film or T.V. is very fun, challenging, and getting the color exactly right for the character can get very demanding. But I absolutely love it! Creating such looks requires a collaboration with the movie’s hair stylist, producer, director, and of course the actor which is inspiring the role.

Last week Kim Basinger came in to get her color done for an upcoming film, and had not seen her for years. The first time I met her was in 2003 and I was stunned with such a beauty and I automatically fell in love with her. At that time we needed to make her hair color a perfect shade of a medium copper reddish-brown for her character in the film “Even Money”. It was fantastic working with Kim even after we went back to blonde for movies like: “Cellular”, “Sentinel”, “The Door In The Floor” just to name a few. She even went on to be the face for an editorial campaign with Miu Miu.

This time when Kim came in to the salon the demand was to create depth in her hair and brighten up her blonde with Balayage highlights for her new role in the up coming film “The Good Guys”. I can’t wait for you to see the final look, and most importantly this amazing film.

Here are some pictures from previous advertisements, editorial shoots and films I have done her hair for:

The many looks of actress Brooke Smith

On November 4, 2014 by Corey Powell

I have been doing Brooke’s hair since 2004 and through all these years she has been the perfect canvas for re-inventing her look from role to role. Since doing her hair from her role on the film “In Her Shoes” with co-star Cameron Diaz to TV’s “Grey’s Anatomy” and most recently on “Ray Donavan” I have taken her hair in so many different colors and variations imaginable while still keeping it looking flattering.

Brooke this time came in needing a little change for an upcoming audition. While deciding what we should do, I took her skin tone and eye color into consideration for what color would be best for her. Finally we decided to give her hair a more golden strawberry blonde hue with a few beautiful highlights to help brighten it up and give her hair a little pop. Here is the final result:Brooke-Smith-hair-Corey-Powell

Lets take a little trip down memory lane and take a look at the previous looks I did on Brooke from some of her biggest roles.

Beth Behrs New Shorter blonder look

On October 20, 2014 by Corey Powell

Change is definitely in the hair this Fall and I always love seeing my celebrity clients rocking their new do’s in some very happy faces. In this case I recently took “2 Broke Girls” star Beth Behrs to the blonder side with a beautiful tone on tone blonde with just a few painted highlights to help add some dimension. Finally, we went for a more dramatic shorter lob-style haircut with a sexy side swept bang instead of her usual heavy fringe she recently had.

Here’s a before picture of her with longer hair and an after taken on set with her co-star Kat Dennings with the guest appearance of Kim Kardashian.
